A new addition to the 2017 American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament was announced Tuesday and he is expected to be a contender to win the whole thing.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has agreed to participate in the tournament at Lake Tahoe after a four-year hiatus from the event, according to a press release from the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.

He finished second in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Romo, the Cowboys all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, announced in early April he was stepping away from the NFL — numerous media outlets noted he did not use the word “retirement” —  to pursue a broadcasting career.

Since then, officials with the American Century Championship have been trying to lure Romo back to the tournament, said Phil Weidinger, of Weidinger Public Relations.

“It will be great for the field,” he told the Tribune.

According to Tuesday’s press release, Harrah’s and Harveys Race & Sports Book picked Romo as a co-favorite to win along with two-time defending champion and former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder at 3 to 1. Romo unsuccessfully tried to qualify for the U.S. Open — one of golf’s four major championships — earlier this month.

Now in its 28th year, the 2017 tournament is scheduled for July 14-16. The field of actors, former athletes and other celebrities will compete at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course for $600,000 while raising money for local and national charities.

According to the press release, some of the other competitors include: Aaron Rodgers, John Elway, Charles Barkley, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Steve Young, Marshall Faulk, Derek Fisher, Jason Kidd, Deron Williams, Alex Smith, Bode Miller, Al Michaels, Larry the Cable Guy, Jack Wagner, Mike Modano and first timers Charles Woodson and Paige Spiranac.
