Tourism study defines future challenges

PLACER COUNTY ” Tourism still matters, according to a recent report unveiled by the Placer County Economic Development office.

The 62-page report, found attached to this article, projected “extremely positive” economic impacts as long as products and partnerships between local and regional agencies continue.

The report detailed a few challenges that could increase, or decrease, the region’s appeal to visitors:

– Population size and growth trends, which particularly affect local and regional demand from both adults and school children;

– Demographic characteristics; particularly adults aged 50 and older

– Disposable income; income growth typically relates to increased spending on leisure and educational activities;

– Travel costs (gasoline in particular) and traffic congestion, which affect the ability of visitors to travel to the area, and are particularly important for those traveling from 100 or more miles away; and

– Competition from other leisure, recreation and educational activities.

The report, in detail, then goes on to detail the demographics and statistics of each challenge.
