Town focuses on drugs and alcohol
The Town of Truckee and the Tahoe Truckee Unified School district are hosting a “Family Focus Night on Drug and Alcohol Awareness and Prevention,” tonight, Thursday, April 25. The forum will take place at 7 p.m. at Tahoe-Truckee High School.
The purpose of the event is to share information with parents and students about the respective roles of the various community agencies that share the responsibility of working with youth to prevent them from making poor decisions about using alcohol and drugs. The evening will also cover the consequences for youth that do decide to use substances.
Panel members will give a short summary of their respective agency’s roles and responsibilities with specific reference to underage drinking and what action parents and students can expect from the agencies represented on the panel. Once the entire panel has completed their comments, the facilitator will lead a question and answer session for members of the audience.
Panel members include: Marilyn Britto (parent representative), Jo Lynn Wilson (school representative), Nevada County Deputy District Attorney Fred Holmes, Nevada County Deputy Probation Officer Bob Dorwick, Nevada County Superior Court Judge Andy Holmer, Truckee Chief of Police Dan Boon, Kent Hawthorne of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, Ron Perea of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office and Lisa Dobey of the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation, who serve as the forum’s facilitator.
Nevada County Substance Abuse and Mother’s Against Drunk Drivers have also been invited to participate and provide information about this serious problem.
