Town gives green light for ice arena plans

The Town of Truckee has given the green light to develop an Olympic-sized indoor skating arena, bringing project coordinators one step closer to making the North Tahoe region a thriving center for year-round ice skating.

In December, John H. Hugo of Truckee and his project partner, Steve Weiss, a South Lake Tahoe resident, asked the Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District board of directors for the possible use of 3 acres of district land for the proposed $3 million facility.

Members said they were willing to explore the concept further, and directed Hugo and Weiss to meet with town officials to discuss building regulations, site plans and property constraints.
