Town to discuss land designations at next General Plan meeting

David Bunker, Sierra Sun

General Plan consultants have developed three alternatives to the current land use designations of 14 plots of land in Truckee. One alternative favors mixed use and outlying open space, the second emphasizes economic diversification, and the third maximizes residential development while preserving open space. Each alternative proposes that many or all of the 14 sites be used for other purposes than their current zoning designates.

The Ponderosa Golf Course, one of the sites for possible land use redesignation, has been of particular interest to neighboring landowners who assumed their homes would always border a golf course. In one of the alternatives, the golf course remains the same, but two other alternatives propose some commercial and some residential development on the site, and could require the elimination of the golf course.

Other sites, such as McIver Hill, are being looked at as locations for a permanent college campus. The town will also discuss a variety of uses for the pieces tentatively donated by East West Partners that border Gray’s Crossing.

The workshop-style meetings rely on public input, and all interested residents are encouraged to attend.
