Tree lightings Friday

Staff reports

Truckee will have two chances to attend downtown tree lighting ceremonies on Friday.

The annual “Love Lights a Tree Lighting” ceremony in downtown Truckee is Friday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Bud Fish Memorial Tree located in front of the train depot.

Sponsored by the Truckee Noon Rotary Club, the “Love Lights a Tree” ceremony benefits the American Cancer Society. Funds raised from the event will allow the American Cancer Society to continue to provide free services to cancer patients and their families in the Truckee area.

For a small donation to the society, a tiny silver bell can be placed on the Bud Fish Memorial Tree with the name of the person to be honored.

The chorus from the elementary school will perform several songs.

Also, there will be singing of Christmas carols led by Dan Mangus from the Assumption Catholic Church.

There will be hot cider and a visit from Santa.

The program will last for a half hour.

The Downtown Merchants Association is sponsoring the elementary school tree lighting ceremony, also on Friday, at 4 p.m. This earlier program will feature Glenshire and Truckee Elementary students doing their traditional tree decorating activities.
