Truckee announces vigil, grief support resources after deadly avalanche

TRUCKEE, Calif. – In the wake of the deadly avalanche that has shaken the Truckee mountain community, the Town of Truckee released a statement announcing a community vigil and several support resources organized in response to the tragedy.

The statement reads;

“There are no words that can ease the kind of grief caused by this past week’s tragic avalanche near Truckee. We are heartbroken and grieve alongside our community, holding close the families, friends, and loved ones of those who passed, as well as the first responders.

Community partners are coming together to offer several opportunities for connection and grief support, including:



  • Community grief support listening sessions at Sierra College Truckee campus (11001 College Trail), Saturday, February 21, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Town of Truckee Community Vigil at the Eagle Statue in Downtown Truckee, Sunday February 22, 6:00 pm
  • Drop-in support hours at Church of the Mountains daily, Monday, February 23 to Friday, February 27, 12:00-2:00 pm
  • Interfaith service at Church of the Mountains, Monday, February 23, 5:30 pm

In addition, we are looking into opportunities for community art projects to continue to support the healing process.”

Town of Truckee’s Community Vigil will be held at the Eagle Statue in Downtown Truckee, Sunday February 22, 6:00 pm.
