Truckee baseball routed at Dayton

Sun Staff reports

The Truckee High baseball team lost 18-1 in a Northern 3A league game at Dayton on Wednesday.

The Wolverines are now 1-3 in league. Dayton, which outscored Lowry 59-14 in three games last week, is off a 4-0 start in league and is 8-1 overall.

Sophomore Maclane Brady started on the mound for the Wolverines and was replaced by junior Michael Taylor.

The game remained close through the first two innings, with Dayton leading 1-0 entering the third. That’s when Truckee fell apart, as the Dust Devils scored four runs in the third, six in the fourth and seven more in the fifth to end the contest on the 10-run rule.

Truckee’s one run came in the fifth inning when Clayton McDonnell picked up an RBI on a deep sacrifice fly. The Wolverines had just three hits, as John DePew, Justin Vosburgh and Pablo Esquivel each went 1-for-2.
