Truckee business offers breakthrough planning tool for community transformation
April 8, 2009
Seana Doherty and Lauren O’Brien of Streamline Consulting Group, have been in the business of identifying partnerships to create healthy communities for seven years. Now they’re ready to take things to the next level with the “Charrette process.”
Streamline Consulting Group joined organizations as the Environmental Protection Agency, US General Services Administration, US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Fannie Mae Foundation in working with the National Charrette Institute (NCI), a nonprofit educational institution.
NCI specializes in transformative public involvement processes by helping people build community capacity for collaboration to create healthy community plans. Professionals and community leaders like Doherty and O’Brien learn the art and science of the NCI Charrette System, a holistic, collaborative planning process that harnesses the talents and energies of all interested parties to create and support a feasible plan.
The new expertise helps round out Streamline’s community impact efforts for clients. “We’re pleased to use the Charrette process for a variety of projects in the Truckee/North Tahoe Sierra because we believe it yields the best creative and collaborative solutions to some of our region’s toughest issues,” said partner Seana Doherty.
Doherty and O’Brien earned both the NCI Charrette System Certificate and the NCI Charrette Management and Facilitation Certificate. The one-week certificate program took place at the National Charrette Institute in Portland, Ore.
“They now have the tools and techniques for planning and running a successful project using a NCI Charrette to create sustainable communities, sustainable development, transportation, public works and transit as well as citizen advocacy,” stated Bill Lennertz, executive director of NCI.
