Truckee candidate forums upcoming

Sierra Sun staff report

With a month and a week before election day, Truckee-area candidates are set to answer questions of the public.

Two forums will be broadcast live from the Truckee Town Hall Chambers this week and next week. Candidates will not only answer audience questions, but also e-mail questions.

The first forum will feature the Truckee Donner Public Utility District board candidates and Nevada County Superior Court judge candidates. This forum is set for Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Truckee Donner PUD board has two seats open and there are four candidates. The term of office is four years. The court has one seat open and two candidates. The term of office is six years.

The second forum will focus on the Truckee Town Council candidates and is set for Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Three council seats come due for election this November. The three seats, each with a four-year term of office, are being contested in a four-way race.

Residents can e-mail questions to rshadforth@sierrasun.com. Deadline for the TDPUD/Court forum is today and Oct. 9 for the Town Council forum.

The forums are provided as a public service by Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe, Mountain Area Preservation Foundation and Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors in conjunction with Channel 6/Truckee-Tahoe Community Television and the Sierra Sun.
