Truckee DMV office to close during renovation

The Truckee Department of Motor Vehicles office will close for two weeks in June for renovations.

After closing at 5 p.m. Friday, the state office will remain closed until 8 a.m. Monday, June 25.

The DMV office has not been remodeled since its opening in 1991. The scheduled renovations will improve access for disabled customers and modernize the facility. Plans call for the interior to be repainted and the floor replaced.

Truckee’s branch is not the only DMV office that will close for remodeling. About a dozen offices are closed each year for renovations or repairs.

The department will dispatch extra employees to nearby offices to handle the overflow of Truckee-area customers diverted by the closure. The three nearest DMV offices are located at 3344 Lake Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe, 11722 Enterprise Drive in Auburn and 1951 Main St. in Quincy.

Several transactions, including driver license and vehicle registration renewals, ordering personalized license plates and checking on driving school licensing, can be handled over the Internet by visiting Appointments may be scheduled via the Web site or by calling (800) 921-1117.
