Truckee girls drop game against 4A Hug

The Truckee High girls basketball team dropped a nonleague game at Hug this past Thursday.

The loss against the 4A opponent adjusted the Wolverines’ preseason record to 1-6.

“They played really slow in the first half,” said Angelo Tenorio, Truckee’s head coach. “Mentally I don’t think they were ready for the game. They might have been intimidated because (Hug) beat us already (this season).

“We fought back in the second half and played the way we can. But we’re still having trouble puting a full game together.”

Tenorio said the Wolverines pulled to within 10 points with a couple minutes remaining in the game, but the Hawks held on for a 14-point win.

The Wolverines host McQueen on Friday at 7 p.m. before competing in the McQueen Tournament from Dec. 26-28. Truckee hosts Yerington on Jan. 4 to begin Northern 3A league play.
