Truckee girls soccer shuts out league foes

The Truckee High girls soccer team defeated Spring Creek 4-0 and Lowry 5-0 at home Friday and Saturday to improve to 3-0-1 in Northern 3A league play.

Both games were physical, said Truckee coach Nikki Gerardi, as Spring Creek committed at least 14 fouls, while a Lowry player knocked junior captain Addie Shaffer out of the game early in the second half with a blow to the head.

The Truckee girls stood their ground, though, shutting out both league opponents.

Against the Spartans on Friday night, senior captain Lauren O’Neil had 2 goals ” one from penalty kick ” and 1 assist. Stephanie O’Neil, a sophomore and Lauren O’Neil’s sister, put in 2 goals. Freshman Kelsey Decker scored 1 goal and had 1 assist, and Sophomore Lena Decrescenzo had an assist.

On Saturday, Truckee dominated the second half after the Lowry player received a yellow card for fouling Shaffer.

Freshman Kelsey Decker scored twice, junior captain Katie Dill had a goal and an assist, Stephanie O’Neil had a goal, and Lauren O’Neil and Kaitlin Cocard each recorded assists.
