Truckee golf wins another tournament
The Truckee High golf team took the top spot in the Dayton Tournament by eight strokes over Lowry and Fernley this past Thursday.
Truckee shot a combined team score of 453, while Lowry and Fernley tied for second with scores of 461. The Wolverines have won both league tournaments so far as well as the season-opening Ice Breaker Tournament.
Cold and extremely windy conditions, with gusts of 35 to 40 mph, made for a long day for many golfers. The wind was so severe that Truckee was the only school to have all five team scores below 100.
“I believe the presence of wind added from 10 to 15 strokes for the typical golfer,” Truckee coach Jeff Froelich said.
“I think our guys played well considering the extremely difficult wind conditions. It is very difficult to keep focused and concentrate as the wind is knocking off your hat and blowing you off balance. At those wind speeds, it actually moves your putts off line.”
Truckee’s Daniel Gelso shot the third-lowest score of the tournament with an 83. Brandon Dalton of Fernley was the medalist with a 76.
Ethan Harmon shot a 90 for the Wolverines, while teammates Bryce Poulin and Matt Hardy each shot 91, Pat Galvin 97 and Will Collin 98.
