Truckee JV baseball beats Whittell

The Truckee High junior varsity baseball team defeated Whittell 12-5 on Tuesday.

Matt Theis started on the mound for the Wolverines, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out one in two innings.

Ben Bolton relieved Theis, giving up five hits and one run in four and two-thirds innings while recording eight strikeouts and earning the win.

Shane Fisher closed the seventh inning by forcing a ground ball double play.

Offensively, Theis led the team, going 2-for-5 with a single and a double that scored a run. Theis also walked twice, stole two bases and scored three of Truckee’s 12 runs.

James Depew went 3-for-5 with a double and RBI, and Zusy hit a two-run double.

Freshman Morgan Nevin also played well, going 2-for-4 with a double, and Ricky Cooper had an RBI double. Fisher and Matthew went 1-for-1.

“We got off to a slow start, leaving a few runners on base in the first couple innings,” said Truckee coach Matt Carlson. “By the end of the game, we put it together and got the win.”
