Truckee JV softball wins again

The Truckee High junior varsity softball team defeated Whittell’s varsity squad 12-3 at Shadow Mountain Sports Complex in Sparks on Tuesday.

With the score tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the second inning, Truckee broke the game open with four runs, including three with two outs. Whittell was unable to recover, plating only one more run the remainder of the game.

Rachel Zissimos locked down the Warrior batters from the mound, going all seven innings, striking out three while yielding four hits and four walks.

Miranda Baker and Ashley McKechnie led the Wolverine hitters with two hits each. Bailey LeClair hit a solo home run, and Heather Fisher and Zissimos each had one hit.

Speed continues to be Truckee’s greatest asset.

The Wolverines had six straight steals, but took many more bases by coaxing errant throws and taking an extra bag when a play was being made at another base.

Truckee is now 6-1 overall and travels to Spring Creek for a league doubleheader on Saturday.
