Truckee Library’s "Books Are Sweet" winter reading club winds up
Truckee Library’s 10th annual Winter Reading Club for kids came to a close earlier this month. Thirty-one of the 47 participants achieved their self-determined goal of reading a specific number of books during the months of December, January and February. These reading goals ranged from five books to 20. In December, all participants received a “Books are Sweet” gingerbread-themed bookmark, reading record and stickers to help track their reading progress. Once they reached their reading goal, all finishers selected a prize book to keep and were given an invitation to a special after-hours party at the library to celebrate the completion of the Winter Reading Club.
On the first Friday in March, more than 20 finishers reveled in pizza, board games and a team treasure hunt, which tested their collective knowledge of the library. Teams sought out a series of gingerbread men hiding within specific books, in the children’s wing before being led to the treasure chest of prizes. This was an especially sharp group of kids, because they solved their respective clues in record time.
Hearty congratulations to all our finishers of the 2008-09 Truckee Library Winter Reading Club: Steffen, Annelise, Samuel, Clayton, Spencer, Bryce, Carly, Cooper, Lizzie, K.C., Steven, David, Hannah, Gabriella, Julianna, Sam, Quinn, Emma, Anne, Sarah, Claire, Natalie, Blair, Elijah, Gabrielle, Cameron, Celeste, Austin, Marea, Ryann, and Jasmine! And hearty thanks to the Truckee Friends of the Library for making this program possible with their generous funding.
Stayed tuned for information regarding our Summer Reading Program, a decidedly more splashy version of its more retiring winter companion program: More reading, more prizes and more library events! The Summer Reading Program always starts the last day of school, which is a moving target at this point with the specter of more snow days.
