Truckee man, 56, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; A local man who law enforcement officials say stabbed his roommate last week is being held in Placer County Jail in Auburn without bail on a charge of attempted murder.

Richard Lynn Shelley, 56, of Truckee, allegedly stabbed his 59-year-old male roommate in the abdomen after a verbal altercation on Friday, July 22, at about 7:30 p.m., said Sgt. John Giovannini of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

The alleged incident occurred inside Shelley’s home in the Placer County portion of Truckee.

and#8220;The victim was lucky that no vital organs were struck,and#8221; Giovannini said.

The alleged victim drove himself to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, where he went into surgery, Giovannini said.

and#8220;He’s doing well,and#8221; Giovannini said.

Shelley was arraigned in Placer Superior Court on Monday, July 25. No further information is available, as the matter remains under investigation, Giovannini said.

Shelley’s arraignment was continued on Thursday afternoon. Information regarding a plea is not immediately available, according to a Placer County Superior Court clerk.
