Truckee man arrested on burglary and sex charges

Staff reportsTruckee police arrested a local man on suspicion of burglary and sexual battery on Sunday. Salvador Santos, 28, was charged with the crimes after a 20-year-old woman awoke to find a man, who police believe was Santos, inside her bedroom touching her. The incident occurred in the Sierra Meadows area, according to police.Since an 11-year-old child was in the room at the time, Santos is also facing felony allegations of annoying and molesting a child.Police believe Santos entered and exited the home through an unlocked sliding glass door on Saturday night. Police were unable to find the suspect, but on Sunday, the father of the woman saw who he believed was the suspect. After losing track of him in the Sierra Village apartments, police responded and helped locate Santos.Santos, who has lived in town for one month, is being held in Nevada County Jail. His bail is set at $25,000.Truckee police said that Officer Arnulfo Lopez, who has a strong connection with the Hispanic population in town, obtained information from several sources that led to the arrest.
