Truckee man killed in Susanville car accident

Staff reportsTruckee resident John-Paul Orebaugh, 25, was killed early Sunday morning in a single-car accident on state Route 44 near Susanville.

Orebaugh was the passenger in a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Rebecca Lynn Green, 26, of Reno.According to the California Highway Patrol, the vehicle drove off the road in a well-marked construction zone where the pavement was torn up.

Once the vehicle left the pavement, the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck a pine tree, killing Orebaugh.Green sustained a broken femur and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but speed is considered a likely contributing factor at this point, according to police.Both Orebaugh and Green were wearing seat belts, according to the CHP.
