Truckee man shot and killed at Reno party

RENO (AP) ” A Truckee man was shot and killed at a Halloween party in Reno early Sunday.

Charles C. Kelly, 21, of Truckee, was identified Monday as one of the victims. The names of the other two 23-year-old victims were released earlier, Derek Jensen of Reno and Nathan Viljoen of Fallon.

The three men were fatally shot after an argument erupted at the party in a quiet, upscale neighborhood in southwest Reno. Two men were arrested, investigators said.

Police Lt. Robert McDonald said a preliminary investigation determined the gunshots were fired after a shoving match over people bumping into each other on the dance floor.

“There really is no reason to kill anyone over something like this,” McDonald said. “It’s one of the most ridiculous motivations for a (murder) I’ve ever heard of. But I caution the investigation is preliminary at this point.”

Two 19-year-old Reno men, Samisone Taukitoku and Saili Manu, were arrested on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a firearm. Their bail was set at $500,000 each.

About 75 young people, some wearing costumes, were in attendance at the time, investigators said.
