Truckee man, woman arrested on suspicion of vehicle burglary charges

Staff report

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Two people face possession of stolen property charges after they were arrested this week on suspicion of being involved in a rash of vehicle burglaries in the Tahoe Donner subdivision, officials said.

According to a Tuesday evening press release from the Truckee Police Department, several thefts deemed “crimes of opportunity” by officers occurred overnight from unlocked vehicles in Tahoe Donner during the Thanksgiving weekend. Items taken included electronics and personal property.

On Monday, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office arrested Wiley Washam, of Truckee, on an unrelated matter, according to Truckee Police. During Placer’s investigation, a detective noticed Washam was in possession of “a distinct property item” and notified Truckee Police detectives, who confirmed the item was recently stolen in Truckee.

Following additional information, detectives and officers searched a local residence in Truckee and recovered numerous stolen items, including pieces of identification belonging to victims, linking many of the Thanksgiving weekend theft cases to Washam.

The occupant of the residence searched, Brittany Nash, of Truckee, was found in possession of stolen property, according to Truckee Police. Nash was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, conspiracy and criminal activity while on bail.

Washam was additionally charged with possession of stolen property and conspiracy through Placer County, according to Truckee Police.

In the Tuesday press release, Truckee officers reminded residents to lock their doors and keep valuables out of sight.

“Theft is often a crime of opportunity, and when the opportunity is reduced, so too is the amount of theft,” police said.
