Truckee Mexican restaurant celebrates 20th anniversary

Staff Reports

Los Altos Mexican dining and cantina is celebrating its 20th anniversary during October.

Twenty years ago, Raman and Martha Flores opened the business in Truckee, coming with their family from Jalisco, Mexico. The restaurant originally occupied the building across the street from Tahoe-Truckee High School, which La Bamba currently occupies.

The family moved the restaurant to its current location in the Crossroads Shopping Center 12 years ago.

Today, the Flores’ daughters, Marcela Orozco and Martha Virrey, help Martha run the restaurant.

“They (my parents) were the ones that opened up 20 years ago using family recipes,” Orozco said. “It was a vision of my father and mother to bring authentic food from my ancestors’ homeland. The business represents our heritage.”

Los Altos has become a Truckee landmark and enjoys a great local following, Orozco said. The family strives to project a positive image in the community.

“Hopefully, we’ve made an impact on the local business community here,” she said.

Los Altos has approximately 15 employees and both sisters say the dedication of the employees has made their success possible.

Los Altos will offer a variety of specials throughout October to reward the community for its support throughout the years.

The restaurant is also putting together a new menu for both dinner and lunch as well as some upcoming promotional activities.
