Truckee mountain biker wins national championship

Provided to the SunChad Lorrain of Truckee won the NORBA National Championship in the Expert 19-29 class.

In his rookie season, Truckee mountain bike racer Chad Lorrain earned the NORBA National Championship in the Expert 19-29 class Mountain Cross.

Lorrain, who is originally from Alta, Calif., had several podium finishes at Mountain Cross races throughout the country and one International race in British Columbia.

Although his main event is Mountain Cross, Lorrain has also competed in Dual Slalom and Downhill.

While Lorrain has spent most of his life on a bike, starting riding at the age of 2 and turning pro as a BMX racer at 16, he feels mountain bikes are his calling. He will begin this season as a Premier Pro Class rider. Based on his 2007 results, Lorrain should do just fine, as his track times matched those in the top-10 of the Pro Class.

Lorrain, whose resume is currently in the hands of several eminent bike companies, hopes to find a home with a factory team by January.

“Mountain biking is a growing sport and is even paving its way to people’s living rooms,” Lorraine said. “The World Cup events are scheduled to be televised on ESPN next season. But the costs to compete can be prohibitive without the support of the industry and businesses that will see the biggest benefit from the growth of the sport.

“I hope to get the funding organized soon so I can focus my concentration on winning.”
