Truckee moves ahead with community center plan

The vision to build a new community center in Truckee might come one step closer to reality next week when the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District will consider awarding project contracts.

At a special district meeting to be held on Monday night, the board will discuss a fee proposal and possible award of contract for design development, construction documents, agency review, bidding and construction administration to NTDStichler, an architectural firm out of Auburn.

The district is planning to build a multi-phase 80,000-square-ft community center with gymnasiums, locker rooms, pools, offices and a performing arts center.

Plans to break ground on the property ” located on a triangle-shaped lot between Donner Pass Road, Interstate 80, and Highway 89 north ” have fluctuated and now point to a ground breaking in the spring of 2007.
