Truckee, North Tahoe volleyball exit state tourney

Both the Truckee and North Tahoe high volleyball teams lost in the NIAA State Volleyball Championships in Las Vegas this past weekend.

Truckee, which entered as the Northern 3A’s No. 1 seed, lost in four games to Yerington, the north’s No. 2 seed and a team the Wolverines had beaten four times during the season. According to the NIAA Web site, Truckee went down 24-26, 25-19, 16-25, 23-25.

The Wolverines, who finished 17-1 against the 3A and 35-4 overall, defeated Moapa Valley on Friday to advance to the state championship.

The Lakers, the No. 2 seed from the Northern 2A, lost to Needles, the No. 1 seed from the south, in five games Friday. First-seeded Whittell from the north defeated Needles in five games for the 2A state championship.

North Tahoe finished the season 8-5 against the 2A and 20-11 overall.
