Truckee performance by the Oregon Shadow Theatre

Sierra Sun/Seth Lightcap

The Green Bird puppet show came to town Friday, Jan. 23 at Truckee High Theatre.

Behind the illuminated shadow screen, colorful shadow puppets came to life to tell the story of The Green Bird, a story based in Mexico. A drum roll and a cymbal crash, the calliope sound of a button accordion and the play began: A boy is transformed into a fortune-telling bird by a magician and a brave girl journeys through Mexico to save him.

The Oregon Shadow Theatre, a Portland, Ore.-based company specializing in the ancient art of shadow puppetry was presented by Arts for the Schools in partnership with KidZone Museum, McClintock Accounting and those well-appreciated donors.

Oregon Shadow Theatre is a collaboration of shadow puppeteer, Deb Chase, and musician and actor, Mick Doherty. OST productions are noted for exquisite, colorful puppets, live music and sound effects, and lively humor. For more information visit
