Truckee Police chief search down to eight

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The search for a new chief of the Truckee Police Department is nearing an end, as town officials have narrowed a list of 75 applicants down to eight.

Town General Manager Tony Lashbrook said Tuesday he should choose a new chief sometime soon, with an announcement likely by the first of the year. The applicant, once selected, will assume the position sometime in February.

In the meantime, Capt. Harwood Mitchell has been acting as interim chief since former Chief Nicholas Sensley retired in early November.
