Truckee recreation district adopts Speak Your Peace campaign

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District is the latest public organization to adopt the region-wide Speak Your Peace campaign.

At the Dec. 10 board meeting, the districtand#8217;s board voted unanimously in favor of the civil discourse standards championed by the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation.

and#8220;Our attitude is that itand#8217;s all good will and#8212; anything to improve the communication and the quality of our meetings,and#8221; said Kevin Murphy, board chair.

Murphy said nothing in the community foundationand#8217;s guidelines suggests the issues others have brought up with Speak Your Peace.

and#8220;Itand#8217;s a code of conduct and#8212; it doesnand#8217;t mean the restriction of freedom of speech at all,and#8221; Murphy said.

The Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation has gathered more than 1,000 signatures for people committed to using the nine tools of civility the campaign, and a number of public entities also have signed on.

The Truckee Tahoe Airport District will consider Speak Your Peace on Thursday, Dec. 17.
