Truckee River Trout Unlimited’s barbecue to support wild and native trout habitat
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Truckee River and the myriad creeks, stillwaters, springs and tailwaters that flow into it is home to some of the country’s best trout fishing, and the Town of Truckee sits smack dab in the middle of this angler’s paradise. The Truckee River Chapter of Trout Unlimited — Charter Chapter #103 — officially formed in 2009 by a group of young, passionate anglers who wanted to “give a little back” to the waters that had become an integral part of their lives.
The best way to do this is through projects like the Little Truckee River Fish Habitat Improvement Project. This project looks to restore approximately 3.5 miles of trout habitat on the Little Truckee River. The Truckee area might be famous for its powder skiing in the winter.
That might be slowly changing. Truckee River TU’s mission is to conserve, protect and restore the world-class fisheries of this lesser-known western trout town. They are a group of passionate anglers, guides and small business owners dedicated to the trout rich waters of the Truckee.
Fundraising barbecue
On Friday, June 28, Truckee River Trout Unlimited will host a fundraiser barbecue at Boyington Mills Campground, just above Boca Reservoir on the Little Truckee River, to help raise money for the construction phase of the Little Truckee River Fish Habitat Improvement Project.
The festivities will start at 5 p.m. Dinner tickets will be sold online for $15 at http://www.tahoetroutbum.org, or $20 at the event. You may also purchase “Fish For A Lifetime” raffle tickets online at the website for $15.
Delicious tri-tip sandwiches will be served with all of the fixings. There will be top-notch fly fishing instruction from local guides and industry professionals. With casting competitions, raffle items, and delicious food, you can’t go wrong.
The Fish For A Lifetime fundraiser winning raffle ticket will be selected, where you could win a California lifetime fishing license valued at more than $800.
All of the proceeds from this great event and fundraiser will go directly to helping with the construction and implementation costs for the Little Truckee River Project.
