Truckee softball edged at North Valleys

The Truckee High softball team came up on the short end of a back-and-forth nonleague game at 4A North Valleys on Tuesday, losing 16-15 in extra innings.

Despite the close loss, Truckee coach Mitch Brown was impressed with his team’s effort.

“The game went really well,” he said. “I was not disappointed at all. It was the type of game I expected from the team all year long.”

Truckee freshman Stacy Brenes pitched the first four innings and sophomore Rachel Zissimos threw the final four.

Tied 15-15 entering the bottom half of the eighth, the first batter of the inning for North Valleys hit a walk-off home run. But not before the Wolverines amassed 21 hits, Brown said, adding that there were a number of lead changes throughout the contest.

“We never got down and we battled the entire way. So I was very, very proud of the girls,” Brown said. “If they can play that way from here on, we can do a lot of things. Once they believe in themselves they’ll be dangerous.”

Truckee is now 5-10 overall and remains 2-7 in Northern 3A league play.

Truckee plays three games at Lowry on Friday and Saturday.
