Truckee softball routed at Fernley

Sun Staff reports

The Truckee High softball team lost 11-0 in a Northern 3A league game at Fernley on Wednesday.Truckee fell to 3-10 in league and has five games remaining before the regional tournament on May 9-10. Fernley improved to 8-2. It was disappointing, said Truckee head coach Mitch Brown, adding that the Wolverines are in a battle with Yerington for the final playoff seed. I felt bad for the girls because they just didnt perform.Brown said the Vaqueros had no more than six hits against Truckee freshman Stacy Brenes during her five innings, after which the game was called due to the 10-run rule. But the Wolverines committed between eight and 10 errors to allow Fernley to run away with the win.Errors absolutely killed us, Brown said. Fernley is not as good as we made them out to be. Im not saying theyre a bad team, but we made them look better. At the plate, sophomore Chelsea Cordell and senior Morgan Womack each had one hit for the Wolverines, who had 10 strikeouts in the game. Truckee also suited up only 10 players after calling up Baily LeClair from junior varsity, Brown said.I completely believe we can beat Fernley if the girls come to play, the coach said. Were going to work hard the next few days, and wed like to steal a game from them (this weekend).

Truckee hosts a doubleheader with Fernley on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
