Truckee to codify plan
The Town of Truckee’s intense four-year effort to modernize the 2025 General Plan was only the first step ” now staff, planning commission and town council must put the updated policy into the town’s development code.
Revised last fall, the Truckee General Plan dictates planning policy, from the prioritization of open space to the impacts of new projects, but the actual regulatory enforcement of those policies must be carried out through the town’s development code.
“We will be taking those big policy issues and actually starting to put tools in the development code to implement those policies,” said Town Planner Duane Hall.
Hall said some of the bigger changes in the general plan that will necessitate amendments to the development code include green building practices and clustering residences in new developments.
Currently the staff’s goal is to complete the code update by April 30, 2008. In order to meet that timetable, town council will have to adopt a schedule of meetings and public workshops to discuss the proposed changes, Hall said.
“There will be extensive public involvement on how we can make the code better,” Hall said.
Tonight, the town council will review the proposed implementation plan, looking at the work to be done and planned meetings to complete the update.
