Truckee Town Council discusses Housing Incentive Program
TRUCKEE, Calif. – Truckee Town Council met on Tuesday, June 10 to discuss creating a Housing Incentive Program to support workforce and affordable housing, with possible incentives like reduced parking, flexible zoning, and funding. The focus is on small infill projects and middle-income housing (80–180% AMI). Council showed general support and may form a working group to refine the program.
Council approved continuing its Wildland Protection Agreement with CAL FIRE for 2025–26, authorizing up to $929,426.52 for firefighting services. The agreement expands coverage by 93%, with increased costs due to CAL FIRE rate hikes. Air support can respond within nine minutes.

Council also adopted its priorities for Fiscal Years 2025/26–2026/27, focusing on infrastructure, community connectivity, workforce housing, economic growth, public outreach, emergency readiness, and emissions reduction. Members agreed to prioritize building and transit decarbonization over re-evaluating the single-use bottle ordinance.
New solid waste rates were approved, raising residential costs by 5.95% to $42.94/month. Council also supported exploring enhanced commercial recycling rates. Delinquent waste accounts over $50 will be added to the tax roll for collection, and a new fee for processing these accounts may be introduced later this year.
Council voted to update the Municipal Code to let long-term tenants keep hosted rental permits if issued before a 2022 definition change. The update was approved unanimously and is exempt from CEQA.
The Town proclaimed June as Pride Month, recognizing the Stonewall Uprising and the local Pride Foundation’s 37 events that drew over 2,000 people.
The Truckee Police Department shared an update on its Chief’s Advisory Committee, which meets monthly to strengthen community relations and includes diverse local representation. Applications are open to all residents.
Truckee launched a new public records system on May 8, with 69 requests submitted so far. The system is available on the Town’s website under “How Do I” or “Government.”
Other updates included congratulations to the Class of 2025, a reminder about the June 16 Housing Equity Workshop, and a welcome to new Facilities Maintenance Worker II, Chris Leung.
The next Town Council meeting is scheduled for June 24 at 5 p.m. at Town Hall.
