TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; People do things a little differently in Truckee.

Case in point and#8212; town council tradition holds that each member takes a yearly turn as mayor, rather than someone being elected to the position. On Thursday, town council members will vote to pick next yearand#8217;s first and second in command, effectively replacing current Mayor Mark Brown.

and#8220;I have loved it,and#8221; said Brown about his mayoral tenure. and#8220;Itand#8217;s been a great learning process in getting more involved in the community.and#8221;

He said traditionally the vice mayor, in this case Carolyn Wallace Dee, is picked as the new mayor.

and#8220;I think itand#8217;s a wonderful method and#8212; it gives people more time to be involved on a deeper level,and#8221; Brown said.

Town Clerk Judy Price said it isnand#8217;t really an unusual arrangement, as itand#8217;s done in other towns across the country.

and#8220;In a strong mayor form, they have veto power like a governor and#8212; they didnand#8217;t want someone on the council to have more power than the others,and#8221; Price said. and#8220;It gives all the council members the opportunity to take that role and run the meetings.and#8221;

Town council will select its mayor and vice mayor at the Thursday, Dec. 3, town council meeting starting at 6 p.m. at town hall at 10183 Truckee Airport Road.
