Truckee weather: Freezing weather until New Year’s Day

Not much new snow is expected over the next few days, though highs won’t break freezing until New Year’s Day, the National Weather Service said.

There’s a 30% chance of snow before 5 p.m. today. Highs will reach 26, with 5 to 10 mph winds this afternoon. Under a half-inch of snow is forecast for today, with under an inch expected tonight. Lows will drop to 16.

Another 1 to 2 inches could fall Wednesday, mostly before 5 p.m. Highs will reach 29, with lows dipping to 13.



Thursday will be partly sunny with highs at 31. Lows will settle at 15 that night.

There’s a 20% chance of snow Friday. Highs will hit 26, with lows bottoming out at 4.



Highs will break freezing on New Year’s Day, reaching 34. Lows will drop to 10.

Sunday and Monday’s highs will reach 34. Snow is likely Monday.
