Papoose Preschool and Infant Care raised $500 for the Teacher’s Association for Outdoor and Adventure Education (TAO) this holiday season by hosting a donation-only day of school and infant care on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008.

“This contribution will help assist with gear necessities for local foster children to take part in a 21-day adventure and creative arts program on Donner Summit in the summer of 2009,” says Mark Keim, Program Director of TAO Education.

Papoose Preschool and Infant Care, a Montessori-inspired preschool program, has been an ongoing supporter for TAO Education for more than two years. In 2007 and 2008, Papoose initiated sponsorship for the fundraiser, created a child-friendly booth at the event and volunteered to help raise $20,000.

“Papoose has continually shown their dedication to the program through in-kind donations, fundraisers and participating as a key player in our Soulstice Festival fundraiser for foster children,” says Keim. “Their commitment to support foster children, educational and environmental programs and adventure-based learning has been pivotal in making our organization a success over the past few years.”

TAO Education is a non-profit organization that provides history, leadership and outdoor adventure experiences to the special needs of school groups, youth groups and low income or disadvantaged youth.

Formed by a community of professional educators and highly-trained outdoor guides in the North Lake Tahoe area, TAO Education seeks to network with school and youth groups in order to promote natural history education, outdoor skills, leadership and stewardship toward the environment.

Papoose works with the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of children while also paying attention to the effects of diet and sleep on a young child. Located in a certified Eco-healthy facility, Papoose’s credentialed and highly-trained staff implements structured and free-style indoor and outdoor activities designed to enhance critical thinking, creativity, physical health and self-reliance. Papoose currently has a few openings available in their preschool. For further information or to schedule a visit, please call 550-7506.
