Truckee’s Sierra Cosmetic Laser & Spa offering B12 injections
In order to start spring and summer with enough energy and pep to make the most of the longest days of the year, I recommend enhancing intake of vitamin B12; a natural method to revitalize those suffering fatigue. B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a key role in the normal functioning of the brain, nervous system and the formation of the blood. B12 is bound to proteins in foods like meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and fortified cereals and is released when digested in the stomach. Vitamin B12 is essential for healthy skin, hair, nails, cell reproduction, a healthy digestive system, and also protects against certain cancers including breast, colon, lung and prostate. Vitamin B12 is also needed to convert carbohydrates into glucose in the body, leading to more efficient energy production, which decreases fatigue.
Many people have difficulty absorbing B12 due to high levels of stress or while experiencing certain medical conditions. Vitamin B12 is also lost when alcohol is consumed. Inadequate intake or absorption of B12 can cause fatigue, and severe deficiencies can cause neurological problems or anemia. Vitamin B12 can be taken orally or as drops under the tongue, but taking a supplement by mouth may not provide sufficient amounts of this needed energy booster due to poor absorption. It is recommended that strict vegetarians, heavy drinkers and smokers, pregnant or breast-feeding women, and the elderly take vitamin B12 supplements or injections in order to receive their adequate daily intake.
At Sierra Cosmetic Laser & Spa, B12 injections are offered at a cost of $15 per injection. I recommend patients start with one injection per week for four weeks and then one per month after that, until energy levels are back to normal and they are feeling better.
Once a patient has gone through the treatments and their body returns to a normal healthy state, they can stop in for a vitamin B12 injection whenever they feel the need for it. Vitamin B12 injections are extremely safe: Whatever your body does not absorb will be filtered out by the kidneys.
