Tuesday school district meeting one of last on budget issues

Staff Reports

TRUCKEE/ TAHOE ” Tuesday marks one of the last meetings the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Board of Trustees will use to close a budget gap heading into next year.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Sierra Mountain Community Education Center in Truckee.

A worst-case deficit of about $4 million is projected for the 2009-10 school year. The district has already saved about $3.5 million against that deficit and will need to make up the remainder shortly, said the district’s assistant superintendent of finance, Steve Dickinson, at a previous meeting.

Administrative reductions are anticipated to be among the last few items cut, along with measures to increase revenues through food service and facility use fees.

Dickinson is then expected to update the board and public on the budget timeline.

A regular board meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Sierra Mountain Community Education Center.
