Two found dead off I-80 after 911 call

Just before 6 a.m. yesterday morning the Truckee California Highway Patrol station received a cellular 9-1-1 call from a male subject stating he had just shot a woman and that he was stuck in the snow near Interstate 80 somewhere west of Truckee.

CHP, Placer and Nevada County Sheriff units searched the area along with a CHP fixed-wing aircraft.

“(The caller) said he had shot his wife and was going to shoot himself,” CHP Truckee dispatcher Bryan Olsen said. “Our officers were looking all over.”

The units were unable to locate the vehicle until approximately 9:45 a.m. when a Pacific Gas and Electric employee reportedly spotted the subject’s truck stuck in the snow off of Drum Forebay Road adjacent to I-80, located about 35 miles east of Auburn.

“Responding units found two bodies in the vehicle and both were dead,” Placer County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Rick Armstrong said in a press release issued Wednesday afternoon. “Units secured the scene until the arrival of Placer County homicide detectives.”

The two subjects appeared to have been shot, according to authorities. The identity of the victims was unknown as of press time yesterday.

“There are too many things we don’t know at this point but that we hope to have answers for soon,” Armstrong said.
