Two Truckee students arrested for hate crime

TRUCKEE “-Two Truckee High School students were arrested on Oct. 23 for a hate crime committed on a school bus.

Sgt. Jason Litchie of the Truckee Police Department confirmed two males were arrested for harassing another male student who is afflicted with a handicap.

The harassment did not cause physical injury to the disabled students.

Litchie said the males were aware the student was disabled, qualifying them for a hate crime charge.

Truckee High School Vice Principal Grant Steunenberg confirmed the school is aware of the harassment but said it was a confidential matter and could not comment further on the case.

Litchie said the two boys were arrested and released to their parents on the same day with a citation for the hate crime.
