SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” Locals and visitors to the Tahoe Basin will enjoy two more days of mild weather under a protective ridge of high pressure.

Today will be a beautiful day with sunny skies, light winds and afternoon temperatures climbing into the mid-60s.

Clear skies tonight will allow morning temperatures to dip into the upper teens to lower 20s around the basin. Milder nighttime temperatures will continue above the inversion, or between 6,500 to 8,000 feet, with minimum readings in the mid-40s.

Daytime highs have been running about 15 degrees above the seasonal norm, while valley lows are around 5 degrees below average.

A weak upper low off the central California coast will move slowly east on Thursday, generating an increase in mid- and high-level clouds by afternoon. A stronger weather system will push into the area Saturday morning with a good chance of rain and snow. Current timing from computer models bring precipitation into the Tahoe area early Saturday morning.

Motorists planning travel over the Sierra passes this weekend should plan to leave by Friday night or earlier to avoid possible winter driving conditions. Always check the latest weather and road conditions before departing.
