Van Vliet, Philip Stanley

Philip Stanley Van Vliet, 58, a former Truckee resident, died Aug. 15. He was born in 1946.He attended Truckee schools and graduated from Truckee High School. Van Vliet lived and worked in Truckee for 37 years before relocating to Auburn, Calif. He worked at the mill and with the hospital maintenance staff at Tahoe Forest Hospital.Among his survivors are his mother, Gladys Van Vliet, a brother, Gary Lewis and sister-in-law, Jeanette Lewis.Van Vliet was an avid camper and fisherman and enjoyed spending time in the Sierra fishing on the lakes and streams.No service is planned at this time. 21st Snapshot Day to monitor health of watershed


Volunteers are being sought to take water samples from creeks, streams and smaller lakes, including Lake Tahoe, in the Tahoe-Truckee watershed to get a snapshot of water quality at a single moment in time.
