Vehicles stolen and returned in Truckee

Two recent vehicle thefts were made easy ” both were left running an unattended.

A white Subaru wagon was stolen Thursday from the Truckee Safeway parking lot, and a green Chevrolet Suburban was stolen Saturday from the Best Western in Truckee, according to Truckee police reports. Both were reportedly stolen under similar circumstances ” left running to warm up.

The Subaru stolen on Thursday was spotted by an officer on Highway 89 south.



When the officer attempted to stop the car, the driver fled, according to reports.

The pursuit ended near Donner Lake with the arrest of Chad Roth, a 35-year-old from the Bay Area, who also allegedly stole another vehicle in Santa Rosa that was recovered in Truckee’s Gateway area, according to police reports.



The Chevrolet Suburban stolen Saturday was also found by officers near Donner Lake with the vehicle’s Onstar system, but officers were not able to find the suspect, according to police reports.

Both vehicles were returned to their respective owners without damage.
