Veteran’s Memorial service Monday
Truckee Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2675 and the Truckee Civil Air Cadets invite all veterans, families of veterans and members of the community to attend a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 28 at 10 a.m. at Sierra Mountain Cemetery.
The ceremony honors all veterans who have served their country in all previous wars and conflicts.
Mayor Don McCormack will be the featured speaker and also present a wreath in memory of deceased veterans.
The ceremony includes music by Lee Auckenthaler, bagpiper. Taps will be provided by Cadet 2nd Lt. Bartolini.
The Truckee VFW Post and the Truckee Civil Air Cadets will place flags on the veterans’ gravesites.
Research by the Civil Air Cadets and the assistance of Don Colclough, Sierra Mountain Cemetery board president, has made locating the gravesites possible.
VFW Commander Gary Thomas says he “hopes the ceremony will remind the community that our freedom and quality of life is in large part due to the sacrifices of many who have gone before us.”
