Sierra Senior Services

I came over here about 1995 and we decided to see what it was like to live in a small town. I wanted to get involved in community service. I joined Truckee Noon Rotary. (In order to) save the meals program for seniors a new nonprofit formed in July of 2001 and I was elected to the board of directors. At that time I was one of the five original members.

The most rewarding is when Ive gone and delivered meals to the seniors. The seniors that are homebound are so grateful for this program. Our program brings them a nutritious meal five days a week and allows them to stay independent.

Im going to start spending my winters in Tucson, Ariz. Being from Honolulu, I never learned how to ski. And Ill probably stay involved in some way delivering meals, working on projects so I wont be completely divorced from the organization. No skiing? What else do you do for fun in Truckee? In the summer I golf, I fish. The Suns Sierra Countis interviewed David for Volunteer Corner. Please send your suggestions for Volunteer Corner to editor@sierrasun.com, subject Volunteer Corner.
