Volunteer Corner: Truckee Police Chief Scott Berry
ALL |
United Way and others
I volunteer with the Truckee Sunrise Rotary. I am on the board for Tahoe Women’s Services, United Way and the Coalition for a Drug-free Nevada County … just a lot of things. I’m also on a committee for Truckee Safe Schools.
Fortunately my schedule is flexible and I am able to volunteer a lot of my evenings and mornings.
I give a law enforcement perspective. With United Way (my role is) for community purposes. I was on the board for Yuba City for six years. There’s not as much of a presence (of United Way) in Truckee. My goal is to bring recognition and support. I really like to get involved because I’m trying to bridge that gap between law enforcement and the community.
It’s important to give back in the community proportionate to what we receive. That is what I was taught by my mom and dad. My parents set the bar high.
Five and a half years.
My wife and I love to snowshoe and go on hikes in the area in the summer. Unfortunately there’s not much snow right now.
The Sun’s Sierra Countis interviewed Berry for this week’s “Volunteer Corner.” Please send suggestions for “Volunteer Corner” to editor@sierrasun.com, subject “Volunteer Corner.” For more information on volunteering in the community, check out http://www.handsontahoe.org.
