Voters approve community pool parcel charge

Voters made a splash with the Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District by voting yes on Measure K.

The measure’s $8 per-parcel charge ordinance was overwhelmingly approved to continue helping with maintenance and operations costs at the Truckee-Donner Community Swimming Pool.

Community support

“I am ecstatic,” said Steve Randall, TDRPD general manager. “It’s exciting to see the community provide such support for a much needed facility. The pool offers opportunities for all ages in the community.”

The Measure required a two-thirds majority vote and won by more than that. Preliminary results from Placer and Nevada counties showed a 76 percent margin, with 3,236 votes favoring the measure and 1,028 votes opposed.

In Nevada County, the measure passed with 3,096 votes for the measure and 969 votes against. In Placer County, the measure passed 140 to 59.

About two-thirds of the recreation district sits within town boundaries with the remainder in unincorporated areas of Placer and Nevada counties.

The pool’s yearly expenses have been subsidized with the parcel charge since 1981.
