TRUCKEE “-Dean Clark of Truckee-based Vacation Property Management has been cleared for extradition from Costa Rica.

Clark is wanted along with his former business partner, Lori Koester, for 46 felony counts involving their practices with local ski leases, dating back to May 2007 when property owners said Clark and Koester hadn’t paid rental fees or security deposits District Attorney Bill Cornell estimated at a value of $150,000.

“Dean Clark has been in custody in Costa Rica since October. We’ve been going through a long process to get him back, but we’ve received information that we can pick him up today,” Cornell said Thursday afternoon. “We expect to have him back in the next month.”

Koester has been in the system since the arrest warrant was issued, Cornell said, but has deferred trial awaiting the return of Clark.

Cornell said Clark will be arraigned within 72 hours of returning to California on the 46 felony counts.

He said that while federal courts have a penalty for fleeing the country, the state does not.

“And I have no intention of differing to the feds,” Cornell said.

Cornell said he expects the number of complaints against Clark and Koester to go up from 46 as those wronged come forward now that Clark is back in the country, growing the $150,000 figure more.
