Warm and dry for holiday weekend

Jim Grant/Sun News ServiceStorm clouds build over Lake Tahoe on Thursday afternoon.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE Our holiday weekend weather will feature a return to dry weather, warm temperatures and gusty afternoon winds after our round of cloudier and, in some places, unsettled weather on Thursday.A weak upper level disturbance that moved through on Thursday has now moved well off into Nevada and Idaho, which will allow our weather to warm up and dry out with a dry southwest flow continuing through the weekend. Skies will be mostly sunny with a few clouds at times.High temperatures will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s with near 90 in the warmer areas of Alpine County. Overnight lows will cool a little, getting down into the 40s in most areas except the north and east shores of Lake Tahoe, where lows will remain in the lower to mid 50s.Afternoon and evening west to southwest winds will pick up each day in the 10 to 20 mph range, with higher gusts possible. Have a great Labor Day weekend! Simon Smith can be reached at simonsweather@yahoo.com
